AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Longhorns identity has been completely turned upside-down. Since Tom Herman’s arrival at Texas, the Longhorns defense was expected to show up and mostly did. The Longhorns are on a losing streak because of the defense.
For the second straight week, Texas couldn’t stop the run allowing 232 yards to West Virginia in a 42-41 defeat.
“We don’t have time to pout, to wallow in self-pity about losing a ballgame. We’re moving on,” Herman said at his Monday media availability.
Injuries are playing a part. Defensive end Breckyn Hager, safety Brandon Jones and cornerback Davante Davis missed all or most of the West Virginia game and are questionable to play against Texas Tech.
Three starters that could’ve made a difference against the Mountaineers and most certainly will be missed if unable to go this week at Texas Tech.
Herman said he liked the look of his team Sunday following Saturday’s setback and, either way, there’s no time to look back at all the miscues.
“Proud and frustrated at the same time. I’m so proud of the way that we fought two weeks ago in Stillwater. I’m extremely proud of the level of intensity and physicality that we continue to play with. That is something that will never waver in this program. I’m extremely proud of that,” Herman said. “I’m certainly frustrated that we couldn’t close the deal this past weekend, got off to such a poor start the weekend prior.”
