No Refusal weekend in Austin starts Friday night

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Starting Friday, the Austin Police Department will conduct a No Refusal DWI initiative over Memorial Day weekend.

The operation will run Friday through Monday from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m. During a No Refusal weekend, officers will apply for a search warrant to obtain blood from drivers who appear to be driving while intoxicated, who refused to provide a breath or blood sample.

The last time APD held a No Refusal was in March during Spring Break and South by Southwest. During the 18-day operation, APD made 336 DWI arrests. Of those arrests, 222 were made during the operating hours of the No Reufsal initiative.
