AUSTIN (KXAN) — Arkansas left fielder Christian Franklin ended game one of this highly-anticipated midweek series before Texas could make its second appearance at the plate.

Franklin launched a towering grand slam to center field off Texas pitcher Jack Neely, and the Longhorns trailed 6-0 after the second inning. The No.9 Razorbacks scored 10 runs in the second and third on its way to a comfortable 11-4 win against No. 15 Texas.

The Longhorns will attempt to salvage the series split in the finale Wednesday night at 6:30 p.m.

Texas spent a lot of its pitching staff in the Texas Tech series and it showed in the opener. Jack Neely made his first start and went two-plus innings allowing eight earned runs, getting the loss.

Cedar Park product Donny Diaz allowed three runs working through the third and fourth innings in relief. Owen Meaney went the rest of the way when the game was out of reach.

Tate Shaw doubled and catcher Caston Peter hit a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth inning to account for the Longhorns four runs.
