SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — The trainers who teach law enforcement and educators how to respond to active shooters have released a video to help everyday citizens do the same thing if faced with a life threatening situation.

The Advanced Law Enforcement Rapid Response Training (ALERRT) Center at Texas State University says the video is informative, potentially lifesaving and can help close the gap that still exists with training citizens who are on scene and seeing the problem first.

The video can be viewed on the AvoidDenyDefend.org website or YouTube.

The video stems from a partnership between ALERRT and Walmart. It will be used to train 1.5 million Walmart employees and is part of their Active Shooter Awareness Campaign.

ALERRT research has shown that roughly half of these events are over prior to law enforcement’s arrival, and speaks to the importance of civilians knowing what to do in a life-or-death situation.
