AUSTIN (KXAN) — Rage rooms, also known as smash rooms or anger rooms, are all the rage right now!
The venues offer safe places for people to smash stress by taking a hammer to a computer screen or hurling an ax through a car window.
The House of Purge in Charlotte, North Carolina, advertises itself as “a safe environment where you just come relieve your stress.”
Its owner, Vantroy Greene, says:
“It’s about relieving that anger and frustration that’s been built up for years or weeks.”
The activity does not come without hazards, however, as guests must first sign waivers in the event of injury.
While smashing, hitting, throwing and breaking can have therapeutic benefits, such places stress that they are not replacements for mental health treatment or anger management.
