Meet Pigcasso, the rescue pig turned art sensation

Franschoek, South Africa (KXAN) — A rescue pig in South Africa named “Pigcasso” has become an art sensation. Her paintings are selling for thousands of dollars.

She holds a paintbrush in her snout and tosses her head back and forth to create bright, bold strikes on canvas.

“She basically ate or destroyed everything except these paintbrushes and I thought, ‘Gosh, maybe there’s something in there’ because it was really strange that she loved them so much,” says Joanne Lefson, the farm sanctuary founder where Pigcasso lives.

Pigcasso was rescued from a slaughterhouse as a piglet and taken to the animal sanctuary three years ago.

Her paintings now can sell for almost $4,000, and the proceeds go to animal welfare.

“It wasn’t long before she was picking them up, going towards a canvas and creating these amazing masterpieces that are now sold all over the world,” Lefson said.

Pigcasso even had one of her artworks turned into a watch face for Swiss watchmaker Swatch.

The company announced a collaboration with the pig in February.
