WASHINGTON (KXAN) — A huge plume of smoke is billowing from a building in southeast Washington, D.C.

Marines are helping evacuate residents of a building on fire in the 900 block of Fifth Street — the location of the Arthur Capper Senior Apartments, according to NBC Washington

People are running toward the burning building pushing wheelchairs to evacuate residents.

The Washington NBC affiliate reports the fire is about two blocks north of the Washington Navy Yard.
