Florida man pretending to be officer tries to pull over undercover detective

National News

Hillsborough County, Florida (KXAN) — A man in Florida is behind bars after pretending to be a police officer and attempting to pull over an undercover detective.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says Matthew Erris is charged with impersonating an officer after they say he had red-and-blue lights on top of his 2007 white Chevrolet Trailblazer and was carrying an airsoft gun in a holster that looked like a pistol.

The detective ended up calling 911 to report the suspicious traffic stop, and he followed Erris until deputies could respond.

Authorities aren’t sure if Erris has ever tried something like this before.
