Explosion sends Nevada manhole cover high into the air

National News

An explosion in South Lake Tahoe launched a manhole cover high into the air and shut down a Nevada highway this weekend.

Surveillance video nearby showed the flash from the blast, while the aftermath revealed a cracked street and a shattered manhole cover. Officials said two power vaults beneath U.S. Highway 50 that connect nearby casinos overloaded and caused the explosion.

Crews are looking into what caused the overload in the first place.
