GUADALAJARA (KXAN) — A surprise Christmas treat thrilled children visiting the aquarium at Guadalajara Zoo, in Mexico’s second largest city.
Santa Claus, known as “Aqua Claus” here, dives into one of the fish tanks at the aquarium.
He waves, does flips and entertains the dozens of children who visit the zoo every day.
The Guadalajara Zoo is one of the must recognized zoos in Latin America.
During the Christmas season, Miguel Villanueva, a marine biologist and one of three underwater Santas at the zoo, puts on the full Santa costume, including beard and wig, before putting on his diving gear.
He jumps into the cold tank amid the fish, an underwater Christmas tree, chimney and presents – all to the delight of children.
He says he has been doing it for four years.
Villanueva said he never imagined he would dress up as Santa Claus, much less an underwater one, but he says seeing children smiling and happy is “a good satisfaction.”
