APD: Don’t shoot guns in the air at midnight to celebrate new year

National News

AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police are asking people to not shoot guns in the air in celebration of the new year.

Assistant Chief of APD, Ely Reyes tweeted a video telling people that shooting guns in the air was illegal and should not be done in celebration.

“Engaging in celebratory gunfire is not only dangerous but also illegal, and you could be charged with a misdemeanor or felony if someone is injured,” Reyes said. “Remember, what goes up, must come down. Be safe Austin.”
