AUSTIN (KXAN) — During Christmas last year we shared an inspiring story about Samsung employees rallying around a family with a child battling bone cancer.
Ryan Longoria became known as “Ryan the Lion” due to his strength and courage, but he lost his valiant fight less than a month later shortly after the holidays.
Now his mother, Illiana Echols, is trying to help another family whose son did not make it to Christmas this year.
Langston, a 13-year-old boy from Austin took his final breath on Wednesday. He was diagnosed with a rare brain tumor eight months ago, and spent his final days at Dell Children’s Medical Center.
“No mother or father should have to shop for the last outfit for their son as they’re doing now or make his last big Christmas gift a casket,” said Echols.
After finding out the family cannot afford a casket for Langston’s funeral on Tuesday, she is trying to help them raise an additional $3500 on their Go Fund Me.
It was originally set up to help the family survive during the treatments. Both parents stopped working to be with their son.
As of Sunday night, Echols has helped raise $700.
