Missing boy found by K9 Lobos in tree surrounded by donkeys


FAYETTE COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — K9 Lobos came to the rescue of a missing boy in Fayette County, Friday morning.

Around 7:17 a.m., a 911 call to the Fayette County Sheriff’s Office reporting a boy missing from his house in the Rutersville area on State Highway 159, just northeast of La Grange.

Deputies, investigators and state troopers arrived at the home and began to collect information on the boy. A command post was established and Sgt. Randy Thumann and his K9 partner Lobos arrived to began a search of the house and the perimeter.

A DPS helicopter was requested to search for the boy and the Emergency Notification System was activated. Around 8:35 a.m., Sgt. Thumann notified command that Lobos found the boy in a tree located in pasture next to the boy’s house. Deputies noted that several donkeys in the pasture had surrounded the tree.

The boy was found unharmed and returned to his home.

In September, Lobos and Sgt. Thumann found a missing elderly man with dementia about 300 yards behind his home.
