WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The two men who died in a plane crash over the weekend near Taylor have been identified.

Judge Bill Gravell says the pilot was 54-year-old Mickey Brethower of Georgetown. His passenger, Hubert Davis, 66, was from Huffman. Gravell says both men were experienced pilots training for recertification.

The Department of Public Safety says the plane, an AC 90 twin-turboprop, crashed on Saturday just before 10 a.m. near the intersection of Farm to Market 1331 and County Road 428, approximately 10 miles northeast of Taylor. A witness on scene told authorities they heard what sounded like engine trouble before the crash.

According to Brethower’s obituary, he recently became a licensed pilot.

The National Transportation Safety Board is investigating and will determine the official cause of the crash.
