AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin Mayor Steve Adler is across the world to help boost business investments locally.
He is in Seoul, South Korea talking to business leaders about investing in Austin. Adler hopes to attract international investments that could provide more middle-class jobs and maybe even affordable housing.
“We’re trying to find opportunities for Austin businesses to be able to expand to find new markets,” said Adler. “We’re also looking for companies that might be interested in Austin bringing middle-income jobs for people that live in the city.”
So far, Adler has met with the Mayor of Gwangmyeon, Korea, a Seoul suburb and sister city to Austin.
“We’re casting as wide of a net as we can. I think there might be some manufacturing opportunities. We’re talking to Samsung,” said Adler. “We’re talking to some of the larger companies in Korea as well as some of the new startups.”
The Mayor said South Korea “is an innovative and entrepreneurial country and there are a lot of exciting conversations.”
