AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man told police he stole a taco truck in Southwest Austin early Saturday morning because someone stole his cell phone.
Police responded to the 4100 block of South Congress Avenue at 12:23 a.m. when a man said his taco truck trailer had been stolen.
An employee was cooking inside the Karlita’s Tacos food truck when she saw a man outside speaking to someone about a stolen phone. She told police that she heard a noise and began to feel movement inside the trailer. When she stepped outside, she saw the man lowering the taco truck trailer and hooking it up to his white Ford pickup.
Police later found the stolen truck about two miles away in Walgreen’s parking lot, still hooked up to the man’s truck. He told officers that he had taken the truck because someone had stolen his cell phone.
The man was arrested for theft, with the property valued between $2,500 and $30,000.
