AUSTIN (KXAN) — Austin police officers are investigating a fatal auto-pedestrian crash in South Austin.
It happened in the 600 block of West St. Elmo Road near South First Street just before 10 p.m. Sunday.
Austin police say a man was trying to cross the street when he fell down twice. The driver of a white 2005 Chevrolet Tahoe was going northbound on South First Street, with a green light, when they hit the man who was crossing the street.
Police say the driver did not see the pedestrian until the last second and he tried to stop but wasn’t able to avoid the collision. No charges are expected to be filed.
Austin-Travis County EMS says the man who died was in his 50s. Police say there is a possibility the pedestrian was intoxicated and they’re waiting on toxicology to confirm.
