AUSTIN (KXAN) — A man who shot and killed a 41-year-old outside a South Austin restaurant Saturday and then led police on a chase has been charged with murder, the Austin Police Department said in a news release.

Officers responded about 11:30 p.m. to Don Dario’s Canitna, at Interstate 35 and Slaughter Lane, after getting calls about a man with a gun. Police found Manuel Trejo shot to death in the parking lot and relayed information about the suspect’s vehicle to other officers in the area.

Police saw the suspect’s blue Ford Mustang fleeing the parking lot and chased Jacques DeCarlos Garcia, 38, north on I-35 and then west on SH 71. Officers cornered Garcia at the Fox Hill Apartment complex, 8800 US Hwy. 290, and took him into custody.

Bond for the murder charge was set at $250,000. Garcia was also charged with evading arrest in a motor vehicle, a state jail felony, with bond for that charge set at $20,000.

Anyone with any information about the shooting is asked to call the Homicide Tip Line at 512-477-3588 or Crime Stoppers at 512-472-TIPS or text “Tip 103” + your message to CRIMES.
