LANDOVER, MD (KXAN) — An improbable, fourth quarter comeback was just that as the Dallas Cowboys lost to the Washington Redskins 20-17.
Cowboys kicker Brett Maher missed his first field goal since his miss in the season opener. A 52-yard field goal hit off the left upright in an attempt to tie the game at 20 as time expired.
Maher is now 15-17 on field goal attempts for the season.
Trailing 20-10 with 4:48 left in the fourth quarter, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott led a touchdown drive finishing it off with a one-yard touchdown scramble to give Dallas a chance.
Dallas forced a Washington three-and-out to get the final scoring opportunity, but only ran two offensive plays in the final 50 seconds before the missed field goal.
Cowboys running back Ezekiel Elliott was limited to 34 yards on 15 carries.
