AUSTIN (KXAN) — Texas coach Tom Herman is pleased with his team’s second scrimmage of spring practice as the offense won for the second straight week.
The defense was dealt a setback.
Early enrollee linebacker De’Gabriel Floyd will miss the entire 2019 season, according to Herman. Floyd was diagnosed with spinal stenosis and won’t be re-evaluated until next January.
Floyd’s absence is a significant blow for a defense and linebacker unit that is fairly exposed in its lack of depth.
Herman also provided an update on freshman running back Derrian Brown. Brown went to the hospital with a serious head injury two months ago and is undergoing rehab.
Herman says he believe Brown was released from the hospital Friday. Herman shed more light on Brown’s condition. Herman said Brown had surgery to replace part of his skull that had been removed to alleviate pressure.
Texas is hoping Brown can get cleared to come to the spring game next week. Football in the future isn’t out of the question
