AUSTIN (KXAN) — Longhorns senior Kerwin Roach is eligible to play in the Big 12 Tournament as Texas fights to keep its season alive.
Texas coach Shaka Smart announced his team’s leading scorer will return to the court this week during his Big 12 teleconference Monday.
Roach missed the final five games of the regular season due to a university suspension. The Longhorns went 1-4 in those five games, putting their tournament resumé on life support.
Texas (16-15) needs to beat Kansas in the Big 12 quarterfinals if it wants to reach the NCAA Tournament. Most bracket experts have the Longhorns teetering on the edge of postseason eligibility.
Roach averaged 15 points a game while his impacts on the defensive side of the court may mean more for the Longhorns’ chances against the Jayhawks.
Texas went 1-1 against Kansas in the regular season with each team winning on its home court. Roach scored 13 and 15 points in those two match-ups.
