AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Texas Longhorns (9-3, 7-2) are back in the top 10 after their win over Kansas on Friday. Texas moved up two spots to 9th in both the AP and Coaches poll. Texas will take on 5th-ranked Oklahoma (11-1, 8-1) for the Big 12 Championship Saturday at 11 am in Arlington, Texas. Texas beat Oklahoma 48-45 back on Oct. 6 in Dallas.
The Longhorns are back in the Big 12 Championship game for the first time since beating Nebraska in 2009. That’s also the last time Texas won 9 games in the regular season.
Looking ahead to bowl possibilities, if Texas wins against OU they will go to the AllState Sugar Bowl in New Orleans on New Year’s Day. A loss could still send them to a New Years Six Bowl in either the
Chick-Fil-A Peach bowl in Atlanta on Dec. 29 or the Playstation Fiesta Bowl in Glendale, Arizona on New Years Day.
If they don’t earn a spot in a New Year’s Six bowl they will likely head to the Valero Alamo Bowl in San Antonio on Dec. 28 against a team from the Pac 12.
