GRANGER, Texas (KXAN) — A woman found dead in her home in the town of Granger is being investigated as a suspicious death, Williamson County Sheriff Robert Chody said Tuesday night.
The sheriff, who tweeted just before 9 p.m. that it was being investigated as a homicide, said at a 10:30 p.m. briefing that they were no longer treating it as a homicide.
Chody said the woman in her 40s was found by a family member in her home in the 700 block of East Fox Street
Granger police officers were called to the scene at 7:26 p.m. The sheriff, who said his department took over the investigation, said the deceased woman had been dead for at least two days.
Aleta Ruth Thompson lives across the street from where the woman died.
She called the large presence of law enforcement Tuesday as well as the mystery surrounding her neighbor’s death unusual. “You see a city cop pass by checking the neighborhoods out every once in a while, but this is terrible,” Thompson said. “I know that family is just mortified.”
Chody said a suspect is not in custody and the public is not believed to be in danger. No one in the family is a suspect, he said. Deputies are also not willing to share the woman’s name yet.
Granger is located about 10 miles north of Taylor on State Highway 95.
