WILLIAMSON COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is waiving all adoption fees on adult dogs and cats through Sunday.
After storms came through the Austin area this week, the shelter was over capacity. Since April 1, the shelter has received 411 stray animals, which is more than 85 animals than the same time last year.
In response to that, they are hosting the event “Adopters Assemble,” so people can bring home the sidekick of their dreams.
With more storms expected to start on Tuesday, they are facing a space issue that could get even worse.
“We need adopters with superhero hearts to save our dogs,” said Cheryl Schneider, WCRAS animal services director.
Each adult dog and cat will have their current vaccinations, a heartworm or FeLv test, a microchip that the shelter will also register, a certificate for a wellness exam and each adopter will also get a sample of food for their pet.
