ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — A man is accused of breaking into a Round Rock police officer’s car at the end of June and stealing a gun, then posting a picture of it on Facebook.

The gun, an AR 15, was taken from a locked gun rack inside a marked police vehicle on June 22. Police recovered it July 3 after a woman found it in her niece’s room, along with a passport for 26-year-old Louis Phillip Reyes, who was the girl’s boyfriend, according to an affidavit.

Records from Facebook provided to police on Aug. 2 show a photo of Reyes holding an AR 15 posted June 22. At one point he commented on the photo and said “I just hit a law car,” according to the affidavit.

Reyes faces a theft of firearm charge with bond set at $50,000.
