GEORGETOWN, Texas (KXAN) — If you’ve been hoping to adopt a pet, this weekend might be the purrrfect time. The Williamson County Regional Animal Shelter is hosting a free adoption event Memorial Day weekend.

All dogs and cats seven months or older will have their adoption fees waived. They’ve all been spayed or neutered, microchipped and vaccinated. Those who adopt will also get a voucher for a free checkup and coupons to pet stores.

People can visit the shelter at 1855 SE Inner Loop in Georgetown Saturday and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. or Monday from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

“We rely heavily on our community members to save the lives of the animals in our care,” said Cheryl Schneider, the Williamson County animal services director. “Our community is the number one reason that we have saved 90 percent or more of our shelter dogs and cats.”

The shelter is also looking for people willing to foster dogs for two weeks at a time.
