HUTTO, Texas (KXAN) — One person is in custody after a road rage incident led to one driver shooting at another driver early Saturday morning, police say.
Hutto Police Department and Williamson County Sheriff’s Office responded to calls from both drivers involved in the scuffle around 7 a.m. They were driving along Limmer Loop on their way to work and turned onto Ed Schmidt Boulevard, where they then pulled off onto a private drive in Hanson’s Corner.
“I was kind of shocked to see that there had been shots fired, because that was just minutes before we got [to work],” said Tahra Dennis, a manager at a nearby business.
During the fight, Hutto police say one driver hit the other vehicle and the drivers continued the fight all the way to the Home Depot parking lot out at 600 West US Highway 79. That’s when officials say one driver shot multiple rounds at the other driver.
One male was transported to the hospital with a non life-threatening gunshot wound in his leg.
“Hutto is a safe, tight-knit community, you don’t have shootouts in a shopping center,” said Dennis.
For Hutto neighbor Rose Givens, who has lived in the area for 14 years, this was unheard of.
“Never in my life,” she said. “That sounds crazy.”
Givens has also noticed and the city is changing.
“It’s growing,” she said. “It really is growing because when I [moved to Hutto], there was nothing.”
And, with growth comes traffic, says Dennis.
“I always joke about “Hutto rush hour,” she said. “We didn’t use to have that before, so you definitely see the increase of activity here.”
Now, these women are hoping fellow drivers will be extra courteous on the road.
It is unclear how the fight started or how many shots were fired.
