A man tried to avoid hitting another car before he swerved and crashed on U.S. Highway 183 Tuesday, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety.

James Michael Kazenbach, 66, died at the scene near County Road 236, about 10 miles north of Liberty Hill. Officials say he was driving south when he swerved to the right to avoid hitting a car that was trying to turn left. Kazenbach took “evasive action,” which caused him to lose control, leave the road, roll his Ford Explorer and hit a tree.

The road was closed for some time and a helicopter was called to the scene.
