BEE CAVE, Texas (KXAN) — Parents know putting your children in the best sports clubs and leagues is expensive, but at one event held this weekend at the Hill Country Indoor Sports and Fitness Center in Bee Cave, money didn’t matter.
This weekend, the free, two-day Soccer Assist camp gave 65 underserved, deserving players ages 9-13 a chance to play in one of the top indoor soccer facilities in the area.
Wendy Soto brought her three sons and some nieces and nephews.
“It helps us to recognize all the kids,” she said. “They can go to club and see the potential they have. And, maybe we can help them go to another club.”
This is the second year for the camp. Soccer Assist also provides scholarships for players.
This statement from Soccer Assist lays out its mission:
Soccer Assist was created to even out the playing field in the game of soccer, placing more kids on the pitch and parents on the sidelines. With high costs associated to participate in top-level youth sports, too many kids get shut out of the best leagues, limiting their development and visibility. Soccer Assist’s main focus is to get more youth, ages 7-13, involved in soccer – both boys and girls, through endowments and scholarships while connecting them to top-level area soccer leagues. In its first three, years, Soccer Assist has given over $22,000 to their partnering clubs for sponsorships. For more information on programs, guidelines or donations, go to www.soccerassist.org
