PFLUGERVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — Pflugerville police released the name of the suspect from Tuesday night’s shooting at a busy IHOP restaurant.

Matthew Sheedy, 19, now faces charges of aggravated robbery and possession of marijuana following his arrest Tuesday.

According to Pflugerville police, at around 6:46 p.m., Sheedy shot an IHOP employee at the restaurant located at 18709 Limestone Commercial Drive.

Police said Sheedy acted alone when he entered the restaurant and cornered the victim in the bathroom to rob him of narcotics. When the victim could not produce any drugs, police said Sheedy then tried to rob him of money. The victim was shot, as he wrestled away the gun from Sheedy.

KXAN talked Wednesday afternoon with Scott Swindell, who identified his 18-year-old son, Sam, as the victim. Paramedics rushed Sam to a Round Rock hospital to be treated for his injuries, which are minor to one of his hands. He has since been released and is now resting at home.

“We’re glad our son is okay,” Swindell said, “and we’re glad he stopped anyone else from getting hurt.”

A witness, who asked not to be identified, told KXAN that she was eating with her two children and her mother when she said they heard someone yelling for help from the restroom. What sounded like a fight began there, she said, then several shots rang out.

The witness said a server who went to check out what happened then turned around and yelled for everyone to get down or run. She and her family rushed outside and sought shelter behind the IHOP sign in front of the restaurant.

She said she saw a man and another IHOP employee chase the suspect when he ran north from the restaurant. She said he stopped outside a business, sat down and was arrested by police.
