Man faces murder charge after woman found dead in Kingsland home

AUSTIN (KXAN) — A Llano County man faces murder charges in connection with the January death of a woman found dead at a Kingsland home, according to a press release from the Llano County Sheriff's Office Monday.

On Jan. 19, a caller reported to Llano authorities that an injured man had shown up at their home. Deputies investigated and spoke to the injured man and they discovered that a woman had been killed at a home at the 300 block of Ridgeway Street.

The victim was identified as 49-year-old Rachel Mansell and her body showed signs of "severe trauma," officials wrote. The man, Gary Dean Reese Jr., 26, was transported to a hospital with what investigators believe were self-inflicted injuries.

Upon his release from the hospital on Feb. 21, Reese Jr. was arrested and booked into the Llano County Jail on first-degree murder charges in connection with Mansell's death. His bond was set at $50,000 and bonded out that evening.

The Travis County Medical Examiner's Office conducted an autopsy and investigations are ongoing.
