LAKE TRAVIS, Texas (KXAN) — A student assaulted a teacher at Lake Travis High School Monday, according to the district.
Students in the classroom where it happened tell KXAN the student was upset over a grade and walked into the classroom, where he punched his English teacher in the face.
“He came by and he just threw a punch,” said Junior Clay Jackson. “Right hook, right at her face, and he hit her multiple times in the head.”
The school district has not confirmed any details about what prompted the attack, whether the student was disciplined, or how the teacher is doing.
Students reported the teacher was not in the classroom the following day.
“Due to student and individual privacy laws, we are not able to comment on matters of student discipline, the employee’s condition or the employee’s work status,” the district said in a statement. “While this is an isolated incident, we take this matter seriously and it remains under investigation.”
The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is assisting with the investigation and interviewed several witnessess.
Jackson said he raced in to help the teacher as soon as he realized what was going on.
“I came up behind him, grabbed him, his arms were both behind mine, and I locked his head around the back.”
