AUSTIN (KXAN) — The Travis County Sheriff’s Office is searching for the car and driver that reportedly hit an on-duty deputy Tuesday morning.
The sheriff’s office said the accident happened when three deputies were conducting traffic in a school zone on McNeil Drive. At 9:21 a.m., one deputy walked into an empty lane to stop a car in the other lane.
Deputies report that’s when the car swerved and hit him, TCSO said. Westbound McNeil Drive was shut down as a result.
TCSO is searching for a silver Lexus ES 350, possibly with a Texas license plate numbered MNP4774, last seen heading west on McNeil Drive from West Parmer Lane. The car may have front bumper damage.
The deputy was wearing a helmet when he was hit, TCSO said. He was taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and has since been released.
