BURNET, Texas (KXAN) — A dead bat found in a Burnet emergency room bathroom last week has tested positive for rabies, Burnet police say.

On Aug. 1 at 5:49 p.m., an employee found the bat in the Seton Highland Lakes Hospital bathroom at 3201 S. Water and sent off for testing. The hospital is working to determine how the bat got inside. It does not know of anyone who came into contact with the bat.

Officials are asking anyone who may have touched the bat to call Robert Vaughan at the Burnet Police Department at 512-756-6404 or the Texas Department of State Health Services at 254-778-6744.
