Investigators: Military ordnance, weapons found in car on US 281

Hill Country

BLANCO COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Authorities in Blanco County tell KXAN News they found firearms, drugs and a low-power military ordnance in a vehicle on US 281 about 20 miles south of the town of Blanco. A search of the man’s home just after midnight Tuesday turned up more drugs, weapons and body armor.

Jimmy Lower faces felony charges for possessing the weapons and drugs, and police say more charges are likely to come.

This started Monday night when Blanco police say they got a tip a convicted felon may have had weapons, narcotics and an explosive device in the Lake of the Hills subdivision.

While officers were waiting for the Blanco County Sheriff’s Office to arrive, they saw the suspect drive away following another car around 8:50 p.m.

They pulled the two cars over on US 281 and arrested Lower and a woman. Police say Rachel Wilson faces drug charges after a K-9 found about five grams of methamphetamine in her car.

Police described the military ordnance in Lower’s car as “low power” but did not say what kind of device it was. The Austin Police Department Bomb Squad assisted with the arrest and disposal of that device. Lower could also face federal charges.

Police, sheriff’s deputies, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, and Austin police are all investigating.

Blanco Police say they expect even more people to be charged in the coming days.
