Austin man dies while swimming in Lake LBJ

LLANO COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) -- A 38-year-old Austin man died while trying to swim across a section of Lake LBJ during the early morning hours of July 4.

The Llano County Sheriff's Office says four people decided to swim across the Llano River arm of the lake near the Ranch Road 2900 bridge just before 3 a.m.  One of the swimmers turned back while the other three continued across the channel.

Two of the swimmers made it to the other side of the shore when they noticed the third swimmer was in distress and went under.

Game wardens and the Kingsland Volunteer Fire Department arrived with a boat to search for the swimmer around 4 a.m. The victim's body was located via sonar around noon later that day.
