Woman says 3 men sexually assaulted her in San Marcos apartment

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — San Marcos police say they have identified three suspects in connection to a reported sexual assault from last month.

The woman told police she was attempting to enter the lower level of The Vistas apartments, located at 401 N. Fredericksburg St., on July 20 when she was approached by three men who have yet to be named.

The victim says the three men helped her into the building and then followed her for a short time before attacking and sexually assaulting her.

“That’s really scary and like, if it’s one girl and three guys, there’s really not much she can do,” said Shayla Williams, who lives at the apartment complex.

The apartments are mostly filled with Texas State University students. For many, it’s their first place away from home.

“My parents aren’t here, they’re like four-and-a-half hours away. I don’t know how I would even cope with that,” said Williams. “We leave our door unlocked sometimes. I didn’t even think about anything like that happening.”

The general manager of the apartment complex did not comment on the incident but said all the gates and locks were working that night. According to those living at the apartment, they weren’t told anything.

“I never even heard that until you said that. It’s important for residents to know,” said Williams.

It’s still unclear whether the victim or the men live in the apartment complex. If you have any information about this incident, please contact San Marcos Police Detective Dave Campbell at 512-753-2312.
