SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — An arrest warrant has been released for a suspect accused of murder at the Uptown Square apartment complex in San Marcos.

San Marcos Police are looking for 23-year-old An-drew Stephen Jones.

Officers responded to the call of a shooting at 6:37 p.m. at the 1300 block of Thorpe Lane. According to police, multiple people told officers that someone had been shot in the parking lot of the apartment complex.

SMPD says multiple witnesses reported seeing the shooter, who they described as a black man standing at around 6 foot tall. Witnesses said he was wearing a yellow shirt with light-colored shorts, has a sleeve tattoo on one arm and was driving a silver SUV.

Officers were able to use the vehicle description, along with surveillance footage, to obtain a license plate number, which led them to Jones.

Police identified 21-year-old Nicholas Devone White as the man who was shot and killed. Police say officers administered first aid and worked to apply serveal tourniquets to him once they arrived. After that EMS transported White to Seton Hays Medical Center, where he died from his injuries.

“One witness stated that he was meeting the shooting victim at the apartment complex to buy drugs,” San Marcos police said. “While at the complex, the victim and witness were confronted by the above described subject who produced a handgun and shot the victim. He then fled to the silver SUV and left the scene.”

Police say once they identified Jones as their suspect, they found the silver SUV at his apartment complex and impounded it to process it as evidence.

A little after 5:30 Saturday morning, the San Marcos Hays County SWAT team used explosive breaches to serve a search and arrest warrant at Jones’ apartment complex. Nearby residents were notified by phone prior to the breaches and were evacuated safely, according to police. Jones was not found inside of his apartment.

SMPD asks anyone with information about Jones’ whereabouts to call Detective Patrick Aubry at 512-753-2306.
