San Marcos church remembers fallen officer’s contribution

SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — It was a somber Sunday morning at a San Marcos church after Officer Ken Copeland, who worked security at the church, was killed a week ago tomorrow.

“Officer Copeland was a big part of our church,” said Pastor Robin Steele of Promiseland Church. “He would come here on Sundays and offer security. He would go above and beyond the call of duty.”

Pastor Steele said Officer Copeland had a big impact on the church and would greet people as they got there — and even get down on his knees to talk to kids to make them feel welcome.

“Gathering to worship is so important,” Steele told the congregation. “We’re gonna pray together. We’re gonna mourn together. We’re gonna find peace together here at church. And we’re just gonna keep moving forward because we know that’s what Officer Copeland would want us to do.”

Later this week, another church will be filled with people remembering Officer Copeland. His funeral is this Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Community Bible Church in San Antonio.
