DRIFTWOOD, Texas (KXAN) — A dead bat found in a pool in Driftwood has tested positive for rabies, the Hays County Sheriff says.

The bat was found Aug. 23 on the 200 block of Black Stone Cove in the Rimrock subdivision. Officials do not believe anyone touched it, but if that is not the case, people should call the Hays County Sheriff’s Office Animal Control Unit at 512-393-7896 or the Department of State Health Services Zoonosis Control at 254-778-6744.

A dead, rabid bat was also found in a Driftwood yard Aug. 9. Between Aug. 14 and 18, three bats tested positive for rabies in Buda.
