Motorcyclist killed after hitting 18-wheeler, getting dragged near Kyle

KYLE, Texas (KXAN) — A man is dead Monday after the motorcycle he was driving hit an 18-wheeler and he got dragged hundreds of feet, according to a news release from the City of Kyle. 

At about 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Kyle police say 41-year-old Edward Ortiz Jr was speeding southbound on Interstate 35 when his motorcycle hit an 18-wheeler. 

“Ortiz then became entangled under the trailer,” officials wrote. “The truck driver pulled over about 200 feet down the freeway. Reports show the crash happened near mile marker 217.” 

The southbound lanes of I-35 were shut for about an hour and 40 minutes as Kyle police investigated. Ortiz Jr was pronounced dead at the scene.
