LAKEWAY, Texas (KXAN) — New information has been released about a Lakeway man arrested earlier this week on charges of soliciting sexual favors from children online.
Investigators say two of victims are from the Dripping Springs area, but there could be more in Travis County and Williamson counties.
Police say 24-year-old Luann Hida would chat with teenage boys through Snapchat and convince them to buy alcohol and e-cigarette products from him. Police say Hida would go by the name “The Loter” on the app.
Sometime back in July, court documents claim Hida met with three boys all under the age of 15.
They drove to the back of the Heritage Oaks subdivision off of US 290 near Dripping Springs. The victims tell police they parked on a cul-de-sac and began drinking vodka. One of the victims tells police two of his friends drank so much they passed out.
“That is very disturbing, very disturbing,” said Gina Yantes, who lives near Hida. “You just don’t hear about anything like that going on here.”
But according to police, Hida didn’t stop at giving out alcohol. While talking to two of the boys on Snapchat, Hida asked them for nude pictures and later when they met up, court documents say Hida paid one of the victim’s $1,000 to perform sexual acts. He paid a second victim $600 for the same service.
Neighbors like Yantes are now questioning the safety of their community. “There are kids that ride their bikes and play together in certain areas, it’s just shocking. I’m really in shock right now, really in shock,” she said.
Hida remains in the Hays County Jail with more than $500,000 worth of bonds. If he does post bail, he’s been ordered not to speak to anyone under 18-years-old and will have to surrender his passport.
Police are asking any other victims to come forward. Officials with Travis County say they have received tips about activity that matched the description of what Hida’s victims said. Detectives are now looking into Hida’s possible role in those cases.
