SAN MARCOS, Texas (KXAN) — A Kyle police officer was found dead in an apartment in San Marcos, a spokesperson with Kyle Police Department says.

The San Marcos Police Department alerted Kyle police after 6 p.m. Sunday.

The officer was found in his personal car at the Asbury Place Apartments on Wonder World Drive in San Marcos, which is just off Interstate 35.

In a statement Monday morning, the city of San Marcos said Officer Fernando Solis, 28, died from an apparent suicide.

“Our deepest condolences go out to Officer Solis’ family and to the entire Kyle Police Department,” said San Marcos Chief of Police Chase Stapp.

Kyle Police Department employees remember Solis as a good officer, always with a smile and cracking jokes.

“Solis will be fondly remembered by KPD staff,” Chief Jeff Barnett said. “His tragic death leaves a hole in our family.”

Because of the nature of Solis’s death, it can be difficult to discuss,” the chief said. “We have many unanswered questions, but what we need right now is to come together as a family to help, to listen, to heal, and to keep moving forward to serve the residents of Kyle.”

Anyone in need of help can call the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or chat online at suicidepreventionlifeline.org.
