KYLE, Texas (KXAN) — Kyle police arrested five juveniles early Sunday morning after a resident of the Settlement Apartments near the Amberwood neighborhood called about suspicious activity.
Police Chief Jeff Barnett said an individual, who called police at about 4:40 a.m., described the scene as suspicious.
“According to the caller, a white SUV with no lights on was slowly rolling through the parking lot, while several other individuals were on foot checking vehicles doors on the lot,” Barnett said.
The youth, ages 15, 13, 12, 11 and 11, were still in the lot when officers arrived. Several fled on foot but were soon detained.
Barnett said officers discovered the white SUV was reported as stolen.
“The officers found multiple items in the SUV that officers believed to be stolen.”
He said officers also found what could be an illegal substance. Barnett said it will be tested at a crime lab to determine its origin.
The teens were charged with engaging in criminal activity, theft of property between $30,000 and $150,000, and burglary of a vehicle. Three of the youth were also charged with evading arrest and/or detention.
According to police reports, the teens are from San Marcos, Martindale and Staples. They were booked into the Hays County Juvenile Detention Center.
