Man armed with rifle shot by police threatened to shoot passing cars

CEDAR PARK, Texas (KXAN) — Cedar Park police reported an officer-involved shooting in the northern part of the city early Sunday morning after a suspect told them he was going to shoot himself and passing cars, according a press release.

The suspect was identified as Marcus Perry, 47. Police say he did not say where he was but he was known to frequent the area of West Whitestone Boulevard and Bagdad Road.

Police searched the area for Perry and requested air support from the Department of Public Safety. Perry was found in a wooded area just north of West Whitestone Boulevard.

Two officers went into the wooded area to nake contact with Perry. They say Perry was carrying what looked like a rifle and he was moving towards them. They said once Perry was illuminated by flashlights he raised his gun in what officers determined was a threatening manner. Both officers fired their weapons.

Police and medics immediately began life saving efforts on Perry. Emergency medics took Perry to the hospital in stable condition. He remains in police custody.

Police say the investigation is ongoing.
