US 290 near McDade back open after crews contain brush fires

Bastrop County

BASTROP COUNTY, Texas (KXAN) — Multiple brush fires along US 290 near McDade had the entire highway shut down for a short period of time Friday afternoon.

The fires started around 1:40 p.m. along US 290 near Farm to Market 2336. Multiple fire departments are working to put the fires out. Bastrop County ESD 2 says the fire is a “large wildland fire.”

The westbound lanes reopened around 2:20 p.m. and the eastbound lanes reopened just after 3 p.m.

The Texas Forest Service says the fire has burned around 10 acres and it appears it started in a ditch.
