SMITHVILLE, Texas (KXAN) — Officers from multiple agencies secured Smithville ISD schools Thursday morning after the district received an anonymous threatening voicemail.

The school district placed its five schools in a “lockout,” which involves officers and school officials securing the outside perimeter of school buildings.

An initial investigation determined there was no immediate threat and the schools were released from their lockout.

The lockout lasted about a little over an hour, Superintendent Cheryl Burns said.
