Quick work from first responders prevented a huge disaster at a gas station in Bastrop Thursday night.
The owner of neighboring Consilina Pizzeria, Raymond Keyrouz, shared this video with KXAN.
In the video, you can see and hear a small explosion as firefighters start putting out the blaze.
What’s amazing is the firefighter doesn’t even flinch when it happens.
One of the first responders said it just so happened all the volunteer firefighters were at the station of Bastrop County Emergency Services District No. 2 for a meeting that evening.
“We were on our monthly meeting, and it just happened to go out at the right time,” said Bryan Gibson, a cadet with ESD 2. “It was, I don’t know, maybe a mile away, so it cut down our response time very well.”
Gibson and many of his colleagues are volunteer firefighters — some of them live up to 15 miles from the station. But in this case, they were all nearby and ready to spring into action.
