Activists to take animal cruelty concerns to Bastrop commissioners

BASTROP, Texas (KXAN) —  Those worried about what they believe to be a case of animal cruelty in Bastrop are expected to take their concerns to county commissioners during their meeting Monday.

Complaints started pouring in after someone posted pictures Aug. 18, showing a horse lying in a field that appeared to be malnourished and sick. While the sheriff’s office is investigating and deputies will be checking up regularly, the sheriff says a deputy who visited said the horses on the property had food and water.

The owner of the property is a former rodeo stock contractor who keeps former rodeo animals.

People, including the woman who posted the initial photos on Facebook, want the commissioners to put pressure on the Sheriff’s Office to hold the owner accountable. They also want the county to do a better job of investigating animal abuse cases in general.
