Woman arrested after allegedly trying to take weapon from APD officer

AUSTIN (KXAN) — During an altercation at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless, a woman was arrested for allegedly trying to take a weapon from an officer.

Austin Police responded to a call of a physical altercation at the ARCH. Upon arriving at the scene, the officer witnessed two women involved in a fight. 

The suspect, Crystal DeLeon, 28, was surrounded by ARCH staff members who were trying to stop the fight. 

As the APD officer approached and attempted to restrain DeLeon, she resisted violently. According to the officer, after breaking free DeLeon began to grab for weapons on the officer’s belt.

The altercation continued to the ground as the officer continued to attempt to restrain DeLeon.

The officer stated that DeLeon was able to remove a pistol magazine from its holster, and was successfully able to undo the snap retainer on his taser. 

The officer was able to subdue DeLeon and end the altercation.

DeLeon has been charged with assault on a peace officer, and attempt to take a weapon from an officer.
